San Luis Obispo, CA – PathPoint, in connection with the Department of Rehabiliation, Mayor Jan Marx, Vice-Mayor John Ashbaugh, and local employers, celebrate the 1st Annual Disability Employment Awards Breakfast.
Thursday morning PathPoint, the DOR and other local agencies hosted their first annual Disability Employment Awards Breakfast, honoring employers in the community that hire individuals with disabilities. These employers not only provide employment opportunities, but they enable individuals with disabilities to live full, independent lives.
PathPoint employer partner Aspire Physical Therapy was awarded the Employment Accommodation Award. This feature, highlighted Aspire Physical Therapy as a local employer who reflects the spirit of Americans with Disabilities Act in employment practices.
PathPoint participant, Vivian Chilton who is now employed at Aspire Physical Therapy was recognized for her enduring strength, determination and ability to succeed despite her disability. Vivian brought the crowd to near tears as she described her employment experience and the impact it has made on her life. “You have made it possible for me to work to my best abilities. You have made it possible to make me thrive, and to be defined by my abilities and not my disabilities.”
Vivian reiterated how truly grateful she was to be “contributing to my community again, as an active, working citizen – and redefining my life.” She ended her speech saying that because of PathPoint and her employment opportunity at Aspire Physical Therapy “this has been my second chance – my new beginning. I am forever grateful and I am so thrilled for the new heights in my path.”
