I held his hand when he was scared on his first day of school. Many years later, I cried tears of joy as he walked across the stage at his graduation. Last week when he came home for the holidays and pulled out his very first paycheck to show me, his smile beamed with pride…only to be out matched by the smile on my face looking back at his.
As a parent of a person with a disability, I’ve supported my son through obstacles and challenges…and there have been many over the years. I’ve watched him break down barriers and challenge stereotypes. Over the last 42 years, I’ve watched him achieve so much more than anyone (including myself at one time) thought possible.
